Enhancing Home-Based Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Accessibility for Children with Disabilities
Executive Summary
This activity aims to improve the lives of children with disabilities by providing accessible and Home-based physiotherapy services.
We will work with Proscovia Monica Atuhaire from Kisiizi and Appollo, Lillian, Reuben, community leaders, and caregivers to ensure that children with disabilities receive the necessary support and rehabilitation to reach their full potential through teaching them the basic exercises, and how to use local resources to make children friendly sure Aids like walking aids (bars, crutches, walkers, canes) and continuous spiritual support to care givers and children.
Problem Statement
Children with disabilities in our community face significant barriers to accessing physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, and counselling sessions including:
- Limited accessibility: Many homes are designed lacking accessible facilities, making it difficult for children with disabilities to receive physiotherapy services.
- Lack of trained professionals: none of the health workers here in Kakindo community are trained physiotherapists, making it challenging for children with disabilities to receive specialized care.
- Cultural and social stigma: Children with disabilities often face social and cultural stigma, leading to isolation and limited access to community-based services.
Objectives
- To Improve accessibility: Modify homes to make them accessible for children with disabilities.
- Provide home-based physiotherapy and Rehabilitation:
 Train caregivers to provide home based physiotherapy services to their children.
Activities
- 18th and 19th January 2025 Home visits to all 13 selected homes for children with disabilities to assess accessibility at home and type of walking aid for the child.
- 25th January Care givers meeting to be trained home based physiotherapy and rehabilitation based on the children’s disabilities and how to make walking aids using local resources.
Expected Outcomes
- Improved accessibility:
At least 13 homes will be modified to make them accessible for children with disabilities.
- Increased access to physiotherapy and rehabilitation:
At least 13 children with disabilities will receive Home-based physiotherapy services.
- Enhanced caregiver capacity:
At least 13 caregivers will be trained to provide basic physiotherapy services and rehabilitation to children with disabilities.

Conclusion
This program aims to improve the lives of children with disabilities by providing accessible and home-based physiotherapy services and rehabilitation. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are committed with the caregivers to making that a reality.
